   -   Dear Runners. My name is Marianne Bouwman. I was a teacher and coached long distance and cross country athletes for 25 years in South Africa. I am also a runner. I have been running most of my life. After graduating from high school and univercity I've started to run 10km half and full marathons. To be a runner you have to be motivated, disciplined and focused. It takes a certain level of discipline and commitment to be a runner. Menthal toughness is an acquired trait. Runners can learn to be mentally tough through their workouts everyday. You will be challenged many times to keep moving forward to reach your goal . Most of all you have to enjoy it. Nothing quite compares to the emotions that go through the mind of a runner who successfully finished a half or full marathon. I can say now that running is a important part of my life. Probaly the most important benefit of running was related to my selfesteem. Running is one of the best focus enchancers I ever encountered. The fact that your body is getting better and better at this is a consequence of your contineously sharpened focus. Running will always give you balance in your life and make you see things in perspective. Running will make you more patient , time aware and more willing to carefully plan in advance any tedious task. You can run everywhere. You just need to put on your running shoes and hit the road. Since we moved to Egypt I ran more often races than in South Africa. I was amazed how many runners participate in the running events and how many active running clubs there are in Cairo. A golden rule for all runners. Rest days are just as important as your workout days. The key to keep building your fitness is to add intensity to your running routine. A runners workout should include tempo runs, hillwork, speedwork and long runs. Remember a healthy diet is just as important as resting and workouts. Most importantly HAVE FUN , And Do Not Forget To Run For Victory and Also Fun in The Great Victory  Run 2016 , on  Friday ( DEC  23  ) , See You  Soon .
